E-News 11 March 2025
Term 1
Welcome to Week 6
Lent
Staff and students from across the College paused to observe Ash Wednesday last week in acknowledgment of the commencement of the season of Lent which is a very significant time in the Church calendar as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.
In his 2025 Lenten message, Pope Francis highlighted the importance of choosing to walk together in peace and hope alongside each other:
“May the hope that does not disappoint, the central message of the jubilee, be the focus of our Lenten journey toward the victory of Easter…let us all walk in the same direction, tending toward the same goal, attentive to one another in love and patience”,
During the Ash Wednesday liturgies, we took the opportunity to promote the annual Caritas Project Compassion appeal to our community, encouraging staff and students to “unite against poverty”. We look forward to focussing on this key initiative during Lent, raising important funds for those in need and building awareness and education amongst our community. We encourage all our students to give generously and to involve themselves fully in Project Compassion this year.
Parent Engagement
We are looking forward to our first Friends of Corpus evening scheduled for this Wednesday 12 March commencing at 6.30pm in the Sadler Centre.
Friends of Corpus provides an inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative space for parents and caregivers across the K-12 community to connect and engage with topics relevant to College life. As you would have noted from our recently distributed invitation to families, our focus for the upcoming meeting centres around our three Community Pillar drivers of “Belong, Empower and Care” with topics including:
How connection and belonging enhances student wellbeing and learning
Practical strategies to support your child at home
An overview of the theory and research supporting the frameworks used across the College (including the Kimochi program used in the early years and the URSTRONG program).
We are excited at the opportunity to share our professional learning around the role of the Berry Street Educational Model and positive psychology in supporting our learners. Our approach in creating a positive, flourishing school environment aligns directly to the CEWA Wellbeing Framework which indicates that student wellbeing is:
“synergistic with student learning, with wellbeing both facilitating and predicting academic achievement. When students feel good, have their psychological and social needs met, and are situated in environments that promote a wellbeing culture, they will be more ready to learn, function better as a learner, and academically benefit.”
In developing a common language between home and school we aim to support parent engagement in the lives of their children. As highlighted at each of the Parent Information Evenings to commence the year, we have a core focus on parent engagement given the proven positive impact it has on student learning outcomes. I mention often the depth of research readily available that highlights this key point including from the Australian Government Department of Education that says:
“Parent engagement encompasses children's learning at home, at school and in the community, recognising the cultural and social diversity of families and communities. There is strong evidence linking parent engagement with improvements in academic achievement for children of all ages.”
The Advancing Partnerships - Parent and Community Engagement Framework meanwhile says the following:
“A large body of evidence, spanning several decades, identifies the benefits of continued parent engagement throughout schooling for student learning outcomes. Parent engagement has been shown to improve students’ self-esteem, school attendance, and behaviour at school. In fact, Hattie (2008) estimated that effective parent engagement could add the equivalent of 2 or 3 extra years to a child’s education.”
As a College, we therefore strongly encourage parent engagement at all levels, including of course connecting directly with Homeroom Teachers, Classroom Teachers and respective leaders as per our communication guidelines available here.
I would also like to highlight two other important upcoming parent engagement and learning opportunities for families. The first is Mr Paul Litherland’s Cyber Security and Internet Awareness presentation to parents and carers scheduled for Wednesday 19 March from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm in the Caroline Payne Theatre. This presentation covers a great deal of information to help understand our kids' internet playground and to stay one step ahead of them in the online world. We strongly encourage parents and friend from across the K-12 community to attend. Further details are available here.
The second event is an interactive URSTRONG online parent workshop which will outline the strategies and common language used at the College to support our children in fostering healthy, feel-good friendships. Whilst classes from Years 3-7 participate in this program, the workshop is available to all parents who have children in Years K-7. Details are available here.
As partners in supporting the learning of students, we look forward to continuing to work alongside parents and caregivers to ensure that we create the best possible learning environment for our students in support of them becoming “Outstanding for Others”.
Best wishes and every blessing,
Jeff Allen
Principal
E-News Week 6
Dear Parents and Carers
As we reach the halfway mark of Term 1, we take a moment to reflect on the vibrant start to the year and the many ways our students and staff have embodied our school’s mission of being outstanding for others. Through the values of courage, commitment, and compassion, we continue to grow as a community, supporting and celebrating one another’s successes. Pope Francis reminds us, “Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit. The sun does not shine on itself, and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature.”
With this in mind, we celebrate the wonderful moments that have taken place over the past fortnight.
4 Green Assembly – Ready to Learn, Ready to Lead
The students of 4 Green kicked off the week with a fantastic assembly, reminding us what it means to be ready to learn and work together to create a successful school year. Their presentation showcased the excitement of new beginnings, the importance of teamwork, and how we can all play a part in making our school a thriving learning environment. Through their creativity and enthusiasm, they reminded us that learning is not just about knowledge but about the courage to grow, the commitment to persist, and the compassion to support one another.
Year 3–6 Swimming Carnival – Making Waves in the Pool
The Year 3–6 Swimming Carnival was a true display of school spirit and athletic excellence. From the first splash to the final race, our students demonstrated incredible determination and sportsmanship. Records were broken, personal bests were achieved, and most importantly, the support and encouragement between competitors reflected the very heart of our school values. Whether in the water or on the sidelines, students cheered each other on, showing their commitment to their teams and their compassion for their fellow swimmers.
Year 6 Kindness Challenge – Leading with Heart
Our Year 6 students took part in the Kindness Challenge, a half-day workshop designed to equip them with the skills to lead with courage, commitment, and compassion. They explored the benefits of compassion, learned how to build positive relationships, and reflected on the legacy they wish to leave as the Class of 2025. This experience encouraged our leaders to think deeply about their role in shaping a supportive and inclusive school environment, ensuring they uplift and inspire their younger peers throughout the year.
As we look ahead, we are excited for the opportunities and events still to come. We thank our students, staff, and families for their ongoing support and enthusiasm, and we look forward to sharing more highlights in our next newsletter.
Harmony Week at Junior School
We’re excited to celebrate Harmony Week, a time to recognise and embrace the diversity in our community!
When: Tuesday, 18 March
Gold Coin Donation: Supporting Project Compassion
On the day, Junior School students can come dressed in their national dress or wear an orange shirt with orange accessories. Students can wear costumes, clothes, or items they already have at home in exchange for a gold coin donation, which will be collected by their classroom teacher. Please ensure all outfits are comfortable and appropriate for learning, including suitable enclosed footwear.
Before and After School Access
A friendly reminder to all families: duty before school commences at 8.15 am. We request that students remain with you until that time to ensure their safety. We offer a before-school care program through Camp Australia if you require an earlier drop-off. A reminder that the playground areas are out of bounds during the afternoon and not a designated pick-up zone for students. Students are to wait for collections in one of the drive-thru areas where there is teacher supervision.
Car Park Reminders
Junior Car Park – Kiss and Drop Zone
To ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic during drop-off and pick-up times, we kindly ask all parents and caregivers to adhere to the posted signs and designated areas. The kiss-and-drop zone is strictly for drop-off and pick-up only; please do not park in this area, as it disrupts the flow of traffic and affects the safety of our students.
As the safety of our students is paramount, we also ask that you avoid speeding and remain attentive to your surroundings. Following these guidelines will help maintain a safe and efficient environment for everyone in our school community. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Kindy and Pre-Primary Parking – Marsengo Road Access
For the safety of all students and families, please be reminded that entry into the Kindy and Pre-Primary parking area from Marsengo Road is strictly prohibited. This entrance is for exiting vehicles only. Entering through this way creates a dangerous situation for both pedestrians and drivers. Please adhere to all traffic rules and signage to ensure the safety of our school community.
We appreciate your attention to these important reminders and your commitment to keeping our students safe.
Warm regards
Katya Anderson

Pancakes for Paddy
This St. Patrick's Day, join us in celebrating the feast of the beloved saint with a twist – we’re selling delicious green pancakes for Project Compassion at Recess in the Senior School! This fun tradition connects to the story of St. Patrick, who used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, and now we’re using green pancakes to remind us of his faith, courage, and love for God. Pancakes are especially fitting during Lent, as they were historically a way to use up ingredients like eggs, butter, and milk before the fasting period began. So, come enjoy these festive treats while reflecting on the spirit of St. Patrick and the season of Lent.
Where: Mater Christi When: Monday 17 March, Recess How much: $2.00 cash or card with proceeds to Project Compassion.
Celebrating Harmony Week Through Food
Harmony Week is a special time to recognise and celebrate our diversity, bringing together Australians from all backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect, and belonging—values that strengthen our community.
This year, the Senior School Stewardship Committee has worked closely with the Cafeteria to create a special Harmony Week menu, featuring dishes inspired by different cultures. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to experience and enjoy flavours from around the world, reflecting the rich cultural diversity within our community.
All available at the Cafeteria for lunch orders on selected days, for more information visit the link here.

Real Madrid Foundation Football Camp
We are excited to announce an amazing collaboration between Corpus Christi College and the Official Real Madrid Foundation Football Camp.
The Official Real Madrid Foundation Football Camp will be hosted at Corpus Christi College from 14 April - 17 April 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and the wider community to elevate their football skills and experience a world-class training programme in Perth. The camp will be led by UEFA licensed Real Madrid Foundation coaches, ensuring that participants receive top-quality training based on the official Real Madrid Foundation methodology.
The camp will cover various aspects of football, including strategy, technique, values, fitness, sports psychology, competition, and real game situations.
The camp sessions are open to players and goalkeepers aged 6 to 17 years old regardless of their playing level. On the first day, participants undergo evaluations and are placed in groups based on age and ability, ensuring high quality training sessions.
College families have received an email with more information and a unique discount code. This code is exclusive to Corpus students and cannot be shared. The special price for Corpus Christi College students is $825 (originally $1155). Limited spots are available. Tickets are available at: sdaagency.com.au
Preloved Uniforms
As the College transitions fully to the new uniforms in 2026, the opportunity to donate your old uniforms becomes a possibility across the College.
Last year the College, along with the Friends of Corpus and the Stewardship Student Leaders, investigated how we could recycle/repurpose old uniforms and commenced a pilot program in the Junior School. The response was wonderful and a large number of preloved uniforms were donated to PCCRW who send uniforms to Nigeria and West Africa.
There are collection points at Student Services, the College Uniform shop and in the James Nestor foyer close to the back entrance of the Uniform shop. We ask that the donations are clean and placed in a bag labelled as a donation. As there are lots of items of uniform coming in and out of the College each day, it is important to clearly distinguish what is a ‘donation’ versus ‘lost property’.
Thank you for your support of this initiative.

Supporting Your Child Through Co-Regulation
Helping children manage their emotions isn’t about telling them to "calm down"— it's about guiding them through connection and support. Co-regulation is the process where adults help children develop emotional regulation skills by modeling calm and responsive behaviour. The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) highlights the power of co-regulation in building resilience, especially for children who have experienced adversity. By fostering safe, supportive relationships, we equip children with the skills to navigate challenges with confidence. - read more on the blog!
Project Compassion 2025
This Lent, Corpus Christi College is uniting to support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, standing in solidarity against poverty and injustice. As a faith community, we are called not only to recognise suffering but to take meaningful action—offering our support, prayers, and generosity to those in need.
2025 is a Jubilee Year, a time of renewal, restoration, and justice. Rooted in Scripture, the Jubilee reminds us to reflect on our blessings, restore balance, and extend compassion to those who are vulnerable. As a College, we are embracing this call by grounding our Lenten journey in the Catholic Social Teachings, which inspire us to uphold human dignity, care for creation, and walk in solidarity with those facing hardship.
Our Project Compassion journey began with Pancake Tuesday and Rice Bowl Day, laying a strong foundation for further opportunities to put our faith into action. We encourage all students and families to stay connected through the College calendar and social media for upcoming fundraising events and ways to engage with Project Compassion this Lent.
This year, an online sponsor is currently matching all Project Compassion donations up to $500, doubling the impact of our community’s generosity. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps transform lives.
To make a tax-deductible donation, please visit Corpus Christi College’s fundraising portal here.
Thank you for your continued support in making a difference this Lent.
Best regards,
Damian Ramos
Deputy of Catholic Identity and Mission
