Yr 7 AFL Dockers Cup.
On Tuesday 1 August an enthusiastic bunch of Year 7 AFL footballers travelled to Willetton to compete in the Dockers Cup (Girls) and Dockers Shield (Boys) competitions run by the Associated and Catholic Colleges at Burrendah Reserve. In stark contrast to Monday’s weather, the Tuesday blessed us with clear sunny conditions and our budding young footy stars put on a magnificent display of team oriented, disciplined footy which saw them enjoy tremendous improvement throughout the day and success on the scoreboard against most schools.
The boys took a bit longer to warm up than the girls and unfortunately went down by a narrow margin to All Saints in their first round. They got stronger as the day progressed with wins over Kennedy Baptist, Tranby and both CBC1 and CBC2. Although finishing the carnival on the same points as CBC1 unfortunately they had a lower percentage and have narrowly missed out on progressing to the Grand Final Carnival.
The girls were dominant all day with resounding wins over All Saints, Kennedy and Tranby resulting in them winning the South Metro carnival and they will now progress to the Grand Final Carnival of the Dockers Cup, to be held at Ferndale Reserve this coming Tuesday 8 August.
Congratulations and thankyou to the senior student coaches Gavin Thompson, Thomas Wright, Emma Zannoli and Tahlya Brown who have nutured our Year 7’s during preparations and who did an outstanding job coaching on carnival day.
We would like to wish our Year 7 Girls all the very best for the Grand Final Carnival next week.
Go Corpus!
