Parent Survey

School improvement is informed by a cohesive and clearly articulated direction as identified by the school community; students, staff and parents/carers. As part of an ongoing commitment to school improvement, the College is working in partnership with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) to review current teaching and learning practices and set goals for future development. Recently, all staff and students completed the Diagnostic Inventory of School Alignment (DISA) survey. Within the next few days, parents/carers will also be invited to complete this survey. A link to the survey will be sent to you shortly via email.

The purpose of the survey is to provide the College Leadership Team with information on which to base future decisions about school improvement.

Once all surveys have been completed, the results will be analysed by researchers from the USQ and a detailed report provided to the Leadership Team.

In order that the data collected is as accurate and detailed as possible, I would like to encourage all parents/carers to complete the survey.

Swim Camp 2017

The Annual Swim Camp was held over the weekend of March 10,11,12 down at Pinjarra, staying at Fairbridge Village.

ACC Swim Squad Members trained at Warnbro Aqua Jetty, Murray Leisure Centre and at the beach in Mandurah. It was an energetic weekend of focussed training and team building designed to better prepare our Swim Team for the ACC A Division Carnival to be held at HBF Stadium on Wednesday 22 March.

Congratulations to our Team Captains Claire Coten and Liam Hall who worked beautifully together in nuturing younger talent and strengthening team unity.

PIAF Excursion - Betroffenheit

On 24 February the Years 11 and 12 Dance ATAR classes went to a PIAF performance at the State Theatre of WA. The dance piece was called Betroffenheit and was a collaboration between Electric Company Theatre and Kidd Pivot Contemporary Dance Company. The word betroffenheit is German and means the shock and bewilderment experienced after a traumatic event and the impact this has on someone. This performance is based on Jonathan Young's personal story of trauma and loss, "his own betroffenheit".

The performance was very creative and inspiring as it had a lot of different genres of dance and was a fusion of dance and theatre. As dance students we were very intrigued by the work as it was unusual and surprising from other dance works we have studied before. Thank you to Mrs Fuhr and Mr Bain for giving as this opportunity and we are all looking forward to the challenge of analysing this performance and writing a critical review on this for an in-class theory assessment.

Ash Wednesday Liturgical Dance Performance

The Year 10 Curriculum Dance class performed a liturgical drama and dance at the recent Ash Wednesday Liturgy. They dramatised the story of Lazarus, symbolically binding and then releasing one of the dancers with white cloth to represent Lazarus rising from the tomb. Thanks must go to Ms. Coelho for suggesting and organising this dramatisation - it was a lovely addition to the Liturgy. The dancers finished their performance with a liturgical dance and with only two days of preparation time, did a wonderful job of not only learning the choreography but also conveying a reverent but hopeful mood through their performance. It's always fantastic to see the students contributing in this way to the spiritual life of the College and the Year 10 dancers can be proud of the maturity and poise they exhibited throughout the entire liturgy.

Community Mass Liturgical Dance Performance

This year's Corpus Christi College Community Mass took place on the College's lower oval on the 21st of February. The mass was opened by the Year 10 to 12 dance students performing a liturgical dance to the song Love Lost by the Temper Trap. These students had been rehearsing for the performance for the previous two weeks with the help of Mrs Fuhr. These rehearsals involved not only learning the dance but cleaning it and learning how to show performance qualities within it that would be suitable for the Community Mass. All dancers involved were more than happy to participate as previous dances at not only the Community Mass but all masses and liturgies at the College are held at high regard and are often very memorable. As the sun set over the College community on the night of the mass, we dancers stood before everyone; filled with nerves and anticipation before performing. Being able to participate in such a large spiritual event at the College was wonderful and allowed us as dancers to not only express our faith through dance with each other, but allowed us to share it with the wider college community. To all students involved we would like to extend a large thank you for your dedication and willingness to participate in the Community Mass. You did so with poise and were all amazing.

Year 12 ATAR Dance Day

Dance Day is an annual event for Corpus Christi College Year 12 curriculum dance students. On Friday the 17th of February Ella-Rose Trew and Zoe Wozniak from CO3, Perth's Youth Contemporary Dance company, came to the College and ran several workshops throughout the day. Dance Day was comprised of a contemporary technique class, choreography workshop and improvisation workshop. They facilitated us with different ways to build a more expansive dance vocabulary and helped to refine our technique. We explored different and more unusual points of initiation for movement, to create interest and authenticity. The improvisation tasks allowed us to learn new ways in which to develop movement in preparation for our Original Solo Compositions, a major part of our final external practical WACE exams. Overall the day was a excellent opportunity to learn from industry professionals and gain an understanding of what is expected of us in Year 12, as well as expanding on the skills we will need to successfully complete the ATAR Dance course.

All About Anger – Parent Workshop

We are very lucky to have Rob Tiller from Relationships Australia present to our parents.

This engaging workshop has been designed to assist families when anger is an issue.

Anger is explained in a way that challenges our labelling of ‘an angry person’ and instead aims to help participants to understand that many of us have simply learnt to manage the emotion of anger in unhelpful ways.

The workshop includes some simple skills to help you respond more positively when anger shows up.

When: Wednesday 29th March 2017
