SPARK Academic Extension Testing

As a reflection of our aspirational Vision for Learning, Corpus Christi College is proud to offer the Spark Path: a bespoke program to extend and accelerate students. The Spark Path provides opportunities for students to extend their skills and capabilities and promotes personalised learning. This includes through participation in rigorous academic competitions, extended learning opportunities and differentiated learning within classes.

Selection for the Spark Path is based on application and the results from a placement test, known as the MYAT.

MYAT stands for the Middle Years Ability Test and is a validated tool for measuring the broad abilities of students. It consists of a combination of numeracy, literacy and non-verbal questions. The components of the assessment are broadly summarised below:

  •  Numeracy - 25 questions which are designed to indicate the extent to which a student can exercise basic numeracy skills, is a discriminating and accurate user of mathematical methods, and can reason, solve and construct meaning from number problems.

  • Literacy - 25 questions which provide information about the extent to which a student can exercise basic literacy skills, is a discriminating and accurate word user, and can reason and construct meaning from text.

  • Non-verbal - 25 questions which provide information about the extent to which a student can discover principles and rules and apply them to solve problems using abstract visual patterns rather than numbers or words.

The College will be holding optional MYAT testing for incoming Year 7 students seeking consideration for the Spark Path on Saturday 23 November from 9.30am to 11.00am. In this time, students will complete the MYAT which will then be scored. Parents and students will then be notified of the outcome of the testing process. There is no fee attached to this testing opportunity and it is optional.
