Science
The Science program at Corpus Christi College is student-centred, hands-on and designed to encourage inquisitive and engaged learners. Students in Pre Primary to Year 6 are fortunate enough to participate in one fifty minute Science lesson per week, in a specifically designed Science room, with a specialist Science teacher. The science content that is covered within these lessons includes the three strands of Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills. The three strands of the curriculum are interrelated and their content is taught in an integrated way.
Students are encouraged to develop their independence as they explore, participate and engage in the world around them. Students are given opportunities to participate in a range of activities that aim to foster curiosity and help them to explore the world around them, with as much independence as possible.
Students are encouraged to ask questions, given hands-on experiences creating, setting up and conducting investigations, and given opportunities to work in small groups and partnerships to explore all areas of Science. They are given an introduction into the four main Science areas including Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth and Space Sciences, so that they can begin to form a strong foundation in each of these areas.
The students are involved in setting Learning Intentions for their lessons, as well as encouraged to ignite an interest in Science and its application to their lives. The lessons are based on inquisitive learning.
