E-News 11 February
Term 1
Welcome to Week 2
Welcome
Welcome to Week 2 and the first edition of our College E-News for 2025.
We look forward to another very rewarding year at the College as we continue to build upon the rich legacy of our K-12 community. We are very grateful to College staff, students and families for their support in what has been a very exciting and productive start to the new school year.
Ready to Learn
In speaking to students at our assembly on Thursday last week, I was able to set the scene for the year ahead and promote our core focus of being ‘ready to learn’. This concept is not new to students, with our Student Engagement Scale adorning the walls of classrooms across the school.
As I have previously mentioned, the Scale was co-built with the students to ensure that the language is appropriate and therefore real for them. The focus on readiness to learn is centred around the concept on ‘student agency’ which the OECD [MOU1] is suggesting is a critical skill required by students to support their future success in today’s dynamic, technology laden world.OECD within their “Future of Education and Skills 2030” project define student agency as: “the capacity to set a goal, reflect and act responsibly to effect change. It is about acting rather than being acted upon; shaping rather than being shaped; and making responsible decisions and choices rather than accepting those determined by others.”
They say, “when students are agents in their learning, that is, when they play an active role in deciding what and how they will learn, they tend to show greater motivation to learn and are more likely to define objectives for their learning. These students are also more likely to have “learned how to learn” – an invaluable skill that they can and will use throughout their lives.”
Being ‘ready to learn’ then means that students are prepared to take full advantage of the multiple different holistic growth pathways at the College – whether inside or outside of the classroom. As a school of opportunity, our aim is to provide a myriad of different growth opportunities for students to access and fully invest in through their own volition and choice.
In being ‘ready to learn’, we challenge our students to:
Come to class fully prepared to learn
Focus in class and listen effectively
Adopt positive body language and mindset
Relate and connect well with others
Commit to the challenges presented
Participate and contributing to learning experiences
It is only natural, of course, at times that students may dip out of the readiness to learn space due to a variety of genuine reasons. The challenge for them is to recognise when they are in this mind space and regulate their behaviours to reset and reengage. That is, to be agents of their own learning. This of course can be challenging and we know that it often takes sacrifice and perseverance – but the benefits of genuinely engaging in their learning makes it all worthwhile.
In constantly adopting a ‘ready to learn’ attitude, our students strive toward our College Vision of being ‘Outstanding for Others’. That is, they:
Seek out, act and respond to feedback
Set ambitious goals and challenge themselves
Positively involve themselves in the community
Encourage and support the learning of their peers, sharing knowledge and co-learning with them
Are resilient and perseverant
See the bigger picture and make the necessary sacrifices
Adopt a growth mindset and are open to a wide variety of different learning experiences and opportunities
During our College assembly, we were thrilled to welcome back our high performing students from the Graduating Class of 2024. This exceptional group of students are excellent role models for us as to what can be achieved through choosing an appropriate pathway and then applying effort and rigour to their studies. They have encapsulated our Vision of being Outstanding for Others through living out our Values of Courage Commitment and Compassion each day. Further details of their outstanding achievements are available here.
College Values: Courage, Commitment, Compassion
In being ‘ready to learn’, one therefore must make the choice to Commit. Along with our other Values of Courage and Compassion, this is something we ask all of our community to boldly live out each and every day at the College.
These three Values are fundamental components of our school and provide a clear direction on how we should treat self and others. In choosing to belong to Corpus we agree to these Values which shape our actions and help to create a flourishing, supportive and dynamic Christ-centred learning environment.
All members of the Corpus Christi College community are therefore called to embrace our Values as a proud acknowledgement of what we stand for. When we live out our Values, we become a shining example of a community of individuals who are united in their Vision to be ‘Outstanding for Others’.
K-12 Opening College Community Mass
The annual College Community Mass is a significant event in the life of the College. It is a special time that allows us to celebrate Mass together as one community. Given the significance of this occasion, the Mass is a compulsory event for all staff and students. We also hope to see many parents, families and friends present to share in this celebration which is scheduled for 5.30pm Tuesday 18 February 2025. We are seeking the commitment from all families to prioritise this date for the Mass which will allow us to formally celebrate the start of the year as a K-12 community. Full details are on the College Calendar, available here.
Parent Information Evenings
Following parent and caregiver feedback, we are pleased to inform you that we have introduced start of year Parent Information Evenings for each year level across the K-12 school. It was great to see many parents attend the Year 12 and the Year 3-6 evenings last week. The remainder of the Parent Information Evenings are scheduled for this week.
The Parent Information Evenings are a great way for parents to connect with key staff and to be informed of important events and strategies planned for the year. Full details are available on the College calendar, accessible here.
Best wishes and every blessing,

Principal
Vale Sister Leonie Mayne
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Sister Leonie Mayne, a cherished member of the St Joseph of the Sacred Heart community and an original staff member of Corpus Christi College, serving as Acting Principal in 1985.
Sister Leonie connected deeply with our community, dedicating herself to the establishment of our school and generously sharing her humour, wisdom, and expertise. Her life was a testament to unwavering faith, selfless service, and profound dedication to God's work. She was a wonderful person, an excellent educator, and a committed member of her religious community.
Sister Leonie was insightful, compassionate, and possessed a rich sense of justice. She remained a true friend of Corpus throughout her life. The Leonie Mayne block at our senior campus serves as a daily reminder of her significant contributions to our College.
We hold Sister Leonie's family and the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in our prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto Sister Leonie, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Supporting Your Child's Wellbeing: The Role of College Counsellors and Psychologists
College counsellors and psychologists are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for students, ensuring their overall wellbeing. Here's how they help:
Emotional Support: They provide a safe space for students to discuss and manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.
Academic Guidance: They consult with teaching staff and assist students to build effective study strategies, time management, and overcoming academic hurdles. The psychologist is available to discuss concerns about potential learning and attentional difficulties and can provide referrals to the appropriate services for further assessment.
Crisis Intervention: They offer immediate support during personal crises, such as loss or severe mental health issues within the school context.
Skill Development: They teach essential coping mechanisms, resilience, and social skills to enhance students' overall wellbeing. These skills can be taught through individual sessions, or group sessions.
Referral Services: They connect students with additional resources, such as specialized therapy or medical services, when necessary.
Supporting Families: They can provide support to parents and guardians as they navigate challenges that may arise during various phases of development.
By addressing these areas, College counsellors and psychologists help students thrive both academically and personally, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed.
The Wellbeing Services Team at Corpus Christi is comprised of Ms Luisa Rossi (Head of Wellbeing, Psychologist), Mrs Chloe Wells (Counsellor, Wed-Fri), and Mrs Sue Leaver (Counsellor, Mon-Thurs).
Request for consultation can be made by parents, students, and staff here.

Corpus Christi College is proud to announce that Mr Paul Litherland, will be returning to conduct a Cyber Security and Internet Awareness presentation to parents and carers. This 'Adult-Only' presentation covers a great deal of information to help understand our kids' internet playground and to stay one step ahead of them in the online world. We are honoured that Paul has been presenting to our College Community for 12 years and remains a crucial contributor to the education of our students and community.
Paul with 20 years of experience as a WA Police Officer, with his last 6 years spent within Technology Crime. He was involved in a large number of investigations where adults and kids were caught up in the risks the online world presents. Paul started educating kids about those risks in his local area and decided to leave the police to start Surf Online Safe. Paul is now presenting to over 850 schools and organisations across Australia and is recognised nationally as a leading educator in the field of Internet Awareness. Paul has been pivotal in driving legislative support for the victims of online crime and was the driving force behind the introduction of Intimate Image Abuse laws in 2019.

Week 2 E-News
E-News – Week 2
Dear Parents and Guardians
Welcome to the 2025 school year! This week, the Junior campus has been buzzing with excitement as students eagerly stepped through their new classroom doors. The first few days of a new school year bring a mix of emotions – some students dive in enthusiastically, ready to learn, while others take a moment to observe before fully engaging. All these feelings are natural as we begin this journey together.
As Pope Francis reminds us, "To educate is an act of love, it is to give life." This year, we look forward to walking alongside you and your child as they grow, discover, and shine in all they do. Our Vision of Outstanding for Others continues to guide our teaching practices at the College. At a Junior School level, this brings focus to our child-centred and dynamic learning environments, ensuring that every student is nurtured, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Pre-Primary House Allocation
Last Friday, our school community came together for a special and heartwarming tradition—the Pre-Primary House Allocation Assembly. This significant event marked the official welcome of our youngest students, the Class of 2037, into our cherished house system.
With eager anticipation, our Pre-Primary students discovered their house families, stepping into a legacy shaped by our patron saints and the values they embody. This moment signifies the beginning of their journey of courage, commitment, and compassion—qualities that will guide them throughout their years at Corpus Christi.
As staff, students, and families looked on, the excitement and pride were evident, reinforcing the strong sense of belonging that defines our school community. The warmth of house cheers, the encouragement from older students, and the shared joy of this occasion set the foundation for a lifetime of friendships, learning, and personal growth.
We look forward to seeing our newest house members thrive as they embrace the opportunities, challenges, and friendships that lie ahead. Congratulations, Class of 2037—your journey has begun!
Parent Information Evening
Last week, we held our Year 3 to 6 Parent Information Evening, a fantastic way to start the year and connect with families. This Wednesday, it’s the turn of our Kindergarten to Year 2 families, and we look forward to welcoming you.
These evenings are a key part of our College calendar, providing an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, receive important College updates, key dates, and other relevant information for the year ahead. They also help strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring the best outcomes for our students.
This year, we’ve restructured the format to conclude each evening with an informal gathering, where parents can reconnect and socialise over light refreshments—fostering a deeper sense of community within our College
Class Community Connectors
As we begin the new year, we are looking for new volunteers to take on the important role of Class Community Connectors in 2025. The role of Class Connector is a two-year commitment focused on fostering a positive College Community in partnership with Friends of Corpus. Click here for further details or to nominate yourself.
Junior Inter-House Swimming Carnival
The Junior School Inter-House Swimming Carnival for Years 3-6 is happening on Thursday, 27 February! Time trials for swimming events will take place Wednesday 12 February after school. Please check the calendar entry for previous event communications. The Junior Inter-House Swimming Nomination Form to express interest in carnival events closes at 4.00pm on the 20 February. For more details, please refer to the school calendar. We appreciate your support and look forward to a fantastic carnival!
Junior School Drop-off and Pick-Up
With the start of a new year, we take this opportunity to remind all families to follow the car park signage and use only designated parking areas. To ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic during drop-off and pick-up times, we ask all parents and caregivers to adhere to the posted signs and park only in designated areas. For further details, you can review the Junior School parking information here.
The kiss-and-drop zone is strictly for quick drop-off and pick-up only. Please do not park in this area, as it disrupts traffic flow and compromises student safety. Additionally, we remind all drivers to observe speed limits and remain attentive to ensure the safety of our school community.
Before-School Supervision:
Supervision begins at 8.15am. Until this time, we ask that students remain with their parents or caregivers. For families needing an earlier drop-off, before-school care is available through Camp Australia.
Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Pre-Primary students must be supervised by a parent or guardian until 8.35am.
Once the school day begins, all gates will be locked. Parents must enter and exit through the Junior School Administration Office after this time.
Thank you for your cooperation in creating a safe and efficient environment for all students and families.
As we embark on this new school year, we look forward to working in partnership with you to create a supportive and enriching environment for all our students. Your involvement and connection with our College community play a vital role in making this a place where every child can thrive.
Thank you for your continued support. I am excited for the year ahead and all that we will achieve together!
Warm regards
Katya Anderson
