Year 9's Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award Expedition

Bronze Award Expedition Success: Mt Cooke Adventure

We are thrilled to share the success of our Year 9 students who recently completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Bronze qualifying expedition. On Wednesday, August 14th, and Thursday, August 15th, twenty-three students embarked on a memorable journey at Mt Cooke in Jarrahdale, marking a significant milestone in their DofE adventure.

A Journey of Challenge and Achievement

The expedition, covering a total of 30 kilometers over two days, tested the students’ skills in planning, navigation, and teamwork. Guided by four dedicated staff members and supported by Alex Cann, a current Silver Award participant, the students tackled a challenging hike that included both a summit ascent and navigation around the base of Mt Cooke.

Preparation and Planning

In preparation for this rigorous camp, students demonstrated impressive organizational skills by planning their food and equipment, as well as understanding the environmental conditions they would face. This preparation was grounded in the skills they had developed during regular weekly meetings and the Adventurous Journey Camp completed last term.

Highlights and Achievements

The students' efforts were evident as they successfully navigated their route, camped overnight, and adapted to the challenges of the terrain. The expedition not only tested their physical endurance but also their ability to work collaboratively under pressure. The experience was a testament to their dedication and the invaluable lessons learned throughout the DofE program.

Acknowledgments

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participating students for their hard work and perseverance. A special thank you goes to our staff members for their unwavering support and guidance, and to Alex Cann for his role in assisting our students as they work towards their Silver Award.
