Welcome to Week 2

A very warm welcome back to the College community for the start of another term. I hope that families took the opportunity to spend some quality time together over the holiday break and that the term has started well.

Legacy

Term 4 is a very significant time in the life of the College. We bring together the learning from across the year, celebrate growth and prepare to accelerate into new pathways and opportunities for next year. Learning is a continuum, it is cumulative and can happen anywhere, anytime.

At Corpus we promote a philosophy of learning for life and encourage all our students to adopt a growth mindset that allows them to become self-regulated and reflective learners. This aspirational attitude is one that will set up our students for future success in whatever pathway that they choose.

At this point of the term our focus is drawn to our Graduating Class of 2023 as they celebrate their journey through the College and look excitedly to their own future pathways.

It is a bittersweet moment for us at the College as we farewell our graduands from the community. For so long they have been a daily part of Corpus Christi and have left an indelible mark on the College, so we will miss their presence next year. Equally though, we are very excited at their future prospects as they write the next chapter of their own story to positively shape the world around them.

Our graduands have added to our continuing Corpus Christi story which commenced 40 years ago. As leaders of the College, the students have proudly represented our rich traditions and history and have added their unique and special flavour to our wonderful culture.

When we become members of the Corpus Christi College community, we take on the responsibility of being entrusted to leave a positive legacy as we carry our story onwards. We celebrate our storied past but remain enthused and invigorated in continuing to build our community, for as St Pope John Paul II says “let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence.”

As members of the Corpus community, we all become stewards as we share our journey forward together. Our Year 12 students have fulfilled this role admirably in leading our community with great joy, enthusiasm and inclusivity. They have modelled what it means to capture each learning opportunity provided and to support others in the process. The students have lived out our College values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion through their interaction with others.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave us the blueprint for stewardship by reminding us to comfort those who are in need, be champions of justice and peace, and provide for all in our community who hunger to learn and grow (MATTHEW 5:3-10). He tells us that by our faith, we are the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world” – we add flavour to and shine light from our community (MATTHEW 5:13).

We look forward to formally farewelling our Year 12 students this week at our the Graduation Assembly and Graduation Mass and Ceremony, both held on Thursday this week.

As one cohort graduates, we look to the incoming group to lead us into the future. We wish our Year 11 students well as they assume the mantel of leaders of the College. We know that they will assume this important stewardship role with dedication and will add their own individual legacy to our continuing story.

Update

As our newly formed K-12 College story continues to evolve, we are pleased to provide you with some important updates.

K-12 College Uniform

As you are aware, we have been working diligently in developing our K-12 College uniform since the beginning of the year. In this time, we have sought input and inspiration from a broad range of parent, student and staff groups and are thrilled to announce that the first key phase of this process is now complete. The design and delivery of a new K-12 uniform is a significant strategic step in bringing us together as the one school and celebrates our connected, collaborative, inclusive College community.

The College will very soon be releasing full details of the K-12 Summer, Winter, Sports and House uniforms in a style guide which will include all uniform iterations along with the phasing in process. The uniform honours the rich traditions of the College through a contemporary lens in support of student inclusivity, care and learning in our modern educational landscape.

K-12 Device Strategy

The College is pleased to announce the launch of our K-12 Device Strategy which will be implemented from 2024 and phased in over a period of 3 years. The information regarding the strategy is located on our website (Corpus Christi College - Device Strategy) and was sent to families via email. A booklet with further information can be located here.

The Device Strategy will be funded through an additional levy in the Fees Schedule. The levy will be payable each year over the life of the device (3 years) and there will be an opportunity for families to keep the device at the end of the 3-year period for a nominal amount (to be determined). This device levy will be an all-inclusive fee which will cover the cost of the device, associated protective equipment, stylus (where applicable), and warranty. This will remove the requirement for parents to purchase devices upfront which was a significant financial burden for some families under the current Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program.

The College will release the 2024 Fees Schedule at the Annual College Community Meeting being held on Tuesday 28 November 2023 at 6.30pm in the Senior School Staffroom, which all families are warmly welcome to attend. The 2024 Fees Schedule will be published to our website shortly after the meeting has occurred.

Friends of Corpus

I remind families that the next Friends of Corpus meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 8 November at 6.30pm in the Senior School Staffroom. I am very grateful to the Friends of Corpus Executive team for their input in helping to shape the agendas for each meeting.

We value the input from the Friends of Corpus and appreciate the opportunity to involve them in the planning process at the College. Their feedback into the design of our new K-12 uniform, as an example, was invaluable and we look forward to their ongoing ideas moving forward.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

After many weeks of preparation, the Year 3 students will complete their Sacrament of Reconciliation in the St Thomas More Parish on Saturday 28 October.  We wish our students all of the very best for this important phase of their sacramental journey and look forward to celebrating this special day with them.

Events Calendar

A reminder to families that an outline of upcoming College activities is available on our Events page located here.

As a student team, they all committed to their allocated timeslots throughout the 24 hours and continued walking the whole time. They completed 283 laps as a team, which works out to be about 120 km, plus many students did extra outside of their allotted times.

Students today that participated, may be a bit tired but are excited by their achievement and they all enjoyed themselves!

Reporting of Absentees

If your child is absent from school there are a variety of ways in which parents can inform the College, more information is located here. Absentees can be reported through a variety of means, including the online form, SMS or email absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au. The least preferred method is via call due to the translation of the voice message being unclear at times, please reserve calling for emergencies only. It is very important that you provide your child’s full name, their classroom/homeroom, and the reason for their absence. Please ensure any emails are sent to Absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au and not individual staff email accounts within Student Services. The College will shortly be undertaking a review of the variety of methods used to report absences and is looking to streamlining the number of methods in which this can be done.
