Welcome to Week 10

Reflection on 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, we reflect on another very busy and rewarding year at our K-12 College.

This year we have aimed to continue to make Jesus’ presence a reality through being courageous, committed and compassionate. In living out these Values we positively shape the culture of our K-12 College community.

As the Corpus Christi, the ‘Body of Christ’, we aspire to be the genuine presence of Jesus to each other and in our outreach to the wider community. This underpins our Vision of being Outstanding for Others where we grow our talents to be of real service to those around us.

In prioritising the holistic development of each of our students this year, we have consistently striven to provide them with the best possible learning environment. We have aimed to offer a multitude of differentiated pathways across the K-12 landscape that connect with students’ personal interests and passions. We acknowledge our students for stepping forward this year to grow and to make full use of the exciting opportunities available at the College.

We know that students flourish when they are well. We also know that when we feel good, have our psychological and social needs met and exist within a wellbeing culture, we are ready to learn and embrace challenges. A key focus this year of building belonging, empowerment and care has helped to create the conditions to allow our students to confidently explore new learnings.

Season of Advent

The season of Advent is a time where Christians prepare to celebrate the joyous birth of Christ. We are challenged to look to the real meaning of Christmas during this special period.

Pope Francis encourages us to make room for Jesus:

"Every Christian family can welcome Jesus, just like Mary and Joseph did. They can listen to Him, talk to Him, protect Him, grow with Him. And in doing so, they can change the world. Let's make room in our hearts and in our day, to welcome Jesus." 

Pope Francis also adds meaning to the significance and the symbolism of the Christmas Tree when he says:

“The tree, with its lights reminds us of Jesus who comes to illuminate our darkness” and that like trees, we need roots or “solid foundations” to grow.

Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, meanwhile in his 2023 Christmas Message says:

“This Christmas, like every Christmas, we are invited to hear once again God’s call to us, made real and concrete in Jesus, to come to Him when we are weary and over-burdened and find our rest in Him; to remain among those people who once walked in darkness but who now walk in the light; to allow ourselves to hear deep within us the echo of His voice telling us not to be afraid for He is with us.”

With Acknowledgement

In continuing to grow our K-12 College community this year, we acknowledge the efforts of our very dedicated staff who have worked tirelessly to support quality holistic growth outcomes for our students. Their continued desire to innovate and personalise learning for students is acknowledged and celebrated. We wish those staff departing our community at the end of the year all of the very best and thank them wholeheartedly for their contribution to our College.

To our parents and caregivers, we are most grateful for your engagement with the College. It is through this critical partnership that we collectively shape a community that can effectively support the individualised needs of students and allow them to flourish. A special acknowledgement to parents involved in Friends of Corpus – we have greatly appreciated your passion and enthusiasm.

We acknowledge the excellent support received from Father Phong and the St Thomas More Parish again this year. We are most appreciative of their input into the faith life development of our community.

I would also like to make special mention of the considerable efforts of the College’s Advisory Council again this year. The Council has provided invaluable advice and support to the College in ensuring the success of our future planning and development.

Looking forward to 2024

As one year closes, we await the next with great anticipation. In looking forward, we are excited to continue to nurture our exceptional K-12 community and build upon the amazing legacy of collaborated College community.

Dear parents and guardians

As we approach the joyous celebration of Christmas, I extend my warmest greetings to each and every one of you. This season is a time of reflection, love, and togetherness—a time when we come together as a community to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the spirit of giving.

Christmas Carols Evening

I am filled with immense gratitude and warmth, reflecting on the beautiful K to 12 Christmas carols evening we shared together. The festive spirit was palpable, and the joy radiating from our students' performances was truly contagious.

The evening was not just a showcase of musical talent but a celebration of unity and togetherness within our school community. Seeing students from various grade levels come together to create harmonious melodies was a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines our Corpus Christi family.

The magic of Christmas was undoubtedly present in the air, and it was heartening to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of our young performers. From the little ones in kindergarten to the more seasoned students in the higher grades, each performance was a unique expression of the joy and wonder that the holiday season brings.

Beyond the melodies and harmonies, the event allowed us to pause and appreciate the importance of traditions. The smiles on the faces of parents, siblings, and friends in the audience reflected the shared pride and support.

I would like to extend a massive thank you to our music department team, led by Mr Charles Pinkham. We are blessed to have their talents and enthusiasm in our College community.

Move Up Day

In week 9 there was such a buzz around the Junior campus as the students participated in Move-Up Day. The afternoon was spent connecting with their 2024 classroom teacher and friends, which allowed us to continue to foster that sense of belonging in our community.

House Allocation

The House Allocation Event marked a pivotal moment for our junior students and K to 12 Community. The enthusiasm and positive energy that filled the school during this event were truly heart-warming. The event served as a catalyst for building a strong sense of community and legacy.

Throughout the school year, there will be ongoing opportunities for your child to actively participate in house-related activities, challenges, and celebrations.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making Corpus Christi a vibrant and inclusive community. I look forward to witnessing the positive impact of our house system on the personal and academic development of our junior students.

Year 6 Celebration Evening

As we come to the close of another academic year, it is with great joy and pride that I reflect on the incredible journey that our Year 6 students have undertaken. The Year 6 Celebration Evening was a culmination of their hard work, achievements, and growth.

Beyond academics, I have witnessed remarkable personal growth in our Year 6 students. They have matured into confident, independent individuals who exhibit strong values and a sense of responsibility. Their ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and show empathy towards their peers reflects the nurturing and supportive environment we strive to create at Corpus Christi.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teaching and support staff for their unwavering commitment to the success and well-being of our Year 6 students. Additionally, I would like to thank the parents and guardians for their continuous support, encouragement, and partnership in shaping the educational journey of our students.

As our Year 6 students transition to the next phase of their education, I am confident that they are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead. I look forward to hearing about their continued success and achievements in the years to come.

In closing, I would like to highlight how continually inspired I am by the kindness, curiosity, and resilience of our students. Their enthusiasm for learning and their compassion for others truly reflect the spirit of Christmas. Thank you for welcoming me into your community this year. I look forward to the continued success they will have in 2024.

College Calendar Update

Following valuable feedback from our community, we are proud to have upgraded college calendar for 2024. The New Calendar has been designed to offer a more comprehensive and efficient way for you to stay informed about all events and activities at the college.

Please note that the Corpus Connect App will be updated in late January 2024 to seamlessly integrate the new calendar. This update will provide you with convenient access to all essential dates and events directly from your mobile device.

A special ‘Thank You’ is extended to the Friends of Corpus for their valuable insights throughout this process.

Uniform Shop & College Uniform Launch

This term, the new K-12 College Uniform was officially announced to our community. A comprehensive overview of the uniform range, including individual items, has been published on the College website and in the Uniform Range Booklet.

Parents and caregivers will have the option to order online orders via Flexischools, from 10 January 2024. Please note that any orders placed before this date will be for the current College uniform items, which are being phased out over a two-year transition period, please view the 2024 Uniform Price List HERE.

There will be three Open Days for the College Uniform Shop on the following dates: (No appointments necessary) 

  • Monday, 29 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm)

  • Tuesday, 30 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm)

  • Wednesday, 31 January 2024 (8.00am – 1.40pm)

The College Uniform Shop will be open by appointment for new students (K-12) commencing in 2024 and Online Order collection on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, 17 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm) 

  • Friday, 19 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm) 

  • Monday, 22 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm) 

  • Wednesday, 24 January 2024 (9.00am – 3.30pm)

2024 College Fees

The Fees and Charges for 2024 have received endorsement from the College Advisory Council and gained approval from CEWA. Detailed information regarding these fees is available on the College website, Fees & Charges. The College will generate and communicate fee-related information to parents and caregivers during the last week of January 2024. 

Please note that all fees and charges for 2023 need to be settled and paid in full by 24 November 2023, unless alternative arrangements have been made. 

Parents and caregivers holding a valid and eligible Health Care Card are urged to submit a copy through the online form at by 15 January 2024.
This submission is crucial for consideration during the billing process for the year 2024.

 

K-12 Device Strategy

During Term 4, the K-12 Device Strategy for 2024, for Years 3, 7 & 10 was launched to the community. Comprehensive details of the program can be found on the College website at ICT Device Strategy. This webpage has been recently updated to include a 'Frequently Asked Questions' section, providing additional clarity on various aspects of the initiative, including device levies which will be outlined in the 2024 Fees Schedule.

Water Polo Carnivals

Our Year 7/8 Water Polo teams had an action-packed run at the Secondary Champion Schools Water Polo Carnivals.

Despite fierce competition, our Boys displayed notable improvement to steal a close win over All Saints College. The Girls, had a stellar day, topping their group and advancing to the Grand Final!

In a thrilling match against Churchlands Senior High School, our Girls exhibited courage and determination, trading goals to the very end, narrowly missing the Victory by a goal.

2024 Junior School Leadership Team

 It is with great excitement that we announce the members of our 2024 Junior School Student Leadership team. These students, elected by vote will work in partnership with the Junior Leadership Team, Year 12 Prefects and our Head Boy and Head Girl to continue to build connectedness across our K-12 community. Our Year 6 Student Leaders will be formally presented with their leadership badges at a Junior School Student Leadership Presentation on 9 February, 9am in the College Theatre.

Library News

Many thanks to our Scholastic Book Club Co-ordinator, Mrs Bettina Sinagra, for managing the College’s orders throughout year. Our Primary Library has been given approximately $1200 worth of books via its Scholastic rewards program!

Students are encouraged to use our fantastic local public libraries over the holiday period.

Hamish Kelly (Year 12)

The spotlight was on Hamish Kelly, recent College graduate, who has authored insightful books addressing the unique challenges faced by Neurodiverse learners. In his book, ‘Hamish - A Work in Progress’, Hamish Kelly shares his firsthand experiences as a student with Dyslexia. Read more HERE.

Duke of Edinburgh - Bronze Awards Recipients

We are privileged to honour six of our Year 9 students who have embraced the challenges and adventures that come with this Bronze Award. These students showed Courage to embrace the spirit of adventure, a Commitment to learning new skills, and demonstrated their Compassion for others with their community service. We celebrate not just an Award but a journey of self-discovery and growth.

St Thomas More Bateman Parish

Children’s Christmas Eve Nativity

The Christmas Committee have commenced organising the Children’s Christmas Eve Outdoor Mass. So, we are now encouraging all primary aged children, who would like to participate in the Nativity to please register. We are looking for 3 majestic Kings and lots of angels and shepherds.

We request that the children be available for rehearsal to be included in the Mass.

The Children’s Christmas Eve Outdoor Mass will be held on Sunday, 24th December at 6:30pm.

The Nativity rehearsal will be held on:

  • Saturday, 23 December at 9:00am - Please meet at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church Hall

To register your interest, please contact/ message Brenella on 0418 877 791 with your child’s name and current year level or write your child’s details on the form that will be placed at the back of the church.

Specific help in the following areas is also required –

1.     We will require a couple of older primary/ younger secondary aged students to assist as readers.

2.  Any parent wishing to assist with the play will also be welcomed.

St Thomas More Parish Sacramental  Program

Sacramental classes for St Thomas More Parish commence on Wednesday the 7th February from 4.00pm, please enrol HERE and upload all necessary certificates. There will be no enrolment day next year as all enrolments are online. (During class on 7 February, 2024, ‘Form 10 - Safeguarding’ will need to be completed.)

If you are experiencing difficulties in enrolling online please send us  an email on catechist.bateman@perthcatholic.org.au  or on 93101747 on Tuesday and a Wednesday.

All children (from pre-school age on) are warmly welcomed to attend the Religious Education Sacramental program. Special arrangements can be made for High School children and Corpus Christi College children who may not have celebrated their age relevant Sacrament.

Sacramental dates for next year will be published at a later date this year.                                      

 

College Appeals Update

The College community has been able to support a variety of very worthy causes throughout the year to make a difference to those in need.

The Vinnies Appeal was overwhelming, and we were able to fill dozens of boxes with cereals, canned fruit and veggies, pasta, biscuits. These were presented to the Vinnies at our End of Year Mass. Thank you Mr Chandler for your coordination.

The Caritas Gaza Crisis Appeal which was originated and led by our students with help from Mr Jackson, has raised $1,346.40 for this initiative.

The Movember Challenge championed by Mr Howard in support of Men's Health including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, men's mental health and suicide prevention has raised $3,111.00, for this worthy cause.

Thank you for your generosity in supporting our Students and the College Community in ‘becoming the change' and to be ‘Outstanding for Others’.

 
 

Learn to Swim at Corpus

 

Corpus Christi College offers a Learn to Swim Program onsite at the Jennifer Reilly Aquatic Centre. The aquatic centre features a covered and heated 25 metre, eight-lane indoor lap and water polo pool, a separate 12 metre learn-to-swim pool and terrace seating for 180 people.

Our Learn to Swim Program is facilitated by Speed With Style, a company who provide a unique approach to swim teaching called Individualised Custom Teaching, which was developed by Dr Nigel Williams in collaboration with head coach and Speed with Style Founder - John Williams.

The Learn to Swim program is available to both Corpus Christi College students and those external to the College.

Reporting of Absentees

If your child is absent from school there are a variety of ways in which parents can inform the College, more information is located here. Absentees can be reported through a variety of means, including the online form, SMS or email absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au. The least preferred method is via call due to the translation of the voice message being unclear at times, please reserve calling for emergencies only. It is very important that you provide your child’s full name, their classroom/homeroom, and the reason for their absence. Please ensure any emails are sent to Absentee@corpus.wa.edu.au and not individual staff email accounts within Student Services. The College will shortly be undertaking a review of the variety of methods used to report absences and is looking to streamlining the number of methods in which this can be done.

Sibling Applications

We encourage applications well in advance of the entry year and encourage families to keep up to date with the Enrolment timelines as advertised on our website.

  • 2026 cohort applications for Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Year 7.

  • 2027 cohort and beyond.

To be eligible for enrolment, all applicants must have submitted an application per child.
