Welcome to Term 2 Week 2
Welcome to Week 2
Welcome to Week 2
A very warm welcome to the start of a new term. I hope that families enjoyed the break and took the opportunity to spend some quality time together.
Building Community
In building Community at Corpus, we promote a sense of Belonging, Empowerment and Care. These core drivers help us to strive toward a Community that best prepares our students for learning and life.
1. Belonging
We want to create an environment at our school that builds confidence in students and allows them to step outside of their comfort zone to learn. In ensuring a sense of belonging, students know that they are respected and valued. They know that it is okay to fail and that they have support around them to help them learn from the experience.
In genuinely belonging to a community, we uphold what it stands for and represents. Our College has a very rich heritage which is represented by each one of our students every day they don the Corpus Christi uniform. We therefore want them to always wear their College uniform with pride whether at or travelling to and from, school.
We ask for parent and caregiver support in assisting College staff in ensuring that our students are consistently supportive of College uniform and grooming expectations. We look forward to releasing full details of our updated K-12 College uniform as the year progresses in preparation for its introduction in 2024. It has been a very rewarding experience in inviting input from staff, students and parents to create what promises to be a very contemporary Corpus wardrobe.
When we belong to a community, we uphold quality relationships. We treat each other with kindness and respect. Through strong student, parent, teacher and peer relationships, we create a positive and safe community that promotes the importance of contribution and the recognition of all. The College’s Codes of Conduct outlines our expected behaviours for all community members.
2. Empowerment
As a College we aim to empower students to become agents of their own learning and growth.
The OECD defines student agency as “the capacity to set a goal, reflect and act responsibly to effect change”. They promote the belief that “students have the ability and the will to influence positively their own lives and the world around them”.
They suggest that “when students are agents in their learning, that is, when they play an active role in deciding what and how they will learn, they tend to show greater motivation to learn and are more likely to define objectives for their learning. These students are also more likely to have “learned how to learn” – an invaluable skill that they can and will use throughout their lives.”
At Corpus, we empower our students to take responsibility for their own learning and to seek out pathways and opportunities that suit their individual skills and abilities. We want them to question, to be curious and to explore, to self-regulate and to become critical thinkers. We encourage them to have a growth mindset and to discover and utilise their own unique character strengths.
In empowering our students, we build their confidence and allow them to develop the skills and confidence to manage their own learning trajectory at school and beyond. We challenge our students to capture the many different learning opportunities at the school, to seek out support form teachers in their learning and to fully invest themselves in the life our very busy and opportunistic school culture.
3. Care
Our third driver of building community is care. We know that students perform best when they feel safe and cared for. In looking after our students, we know them and are present for them in time of need. We partner with our parents in personalising care and support.
We have strong pastoral care structures at the College to support the welfare of our students. Our proactive approach to care allows us to develop self-care and awareness in students which best prepares them to be safe in today’s very dynamic world. The scoped and sequenced pastoral care program we have in place allows us to support student social and emotional needs across the years.
Quality wellbeing is a cornerstone of a flourishing educational community. If students are well then they will learn. The CEWA Wellbeing framework indicates that “student wellbeing is synergistic with student learning, with wellbeing both facilitating and predicting academic achievement. When students feel good, have their psychological and social needs met, and are situated in environments that promote a wellbeing culture, they will be more ready to learn, function better as a learner, and academically benefit.”
Our focus is to promote a caring community where students are skilled in important wellbeing attributes and strongly supported at the point of need by caring staff, peers and experts, facilitated by quality partnerships with parents and caregivers.
As a College, we focus on these three core drivers each day as we strive to build a Community environment that best prepares our students for learning and life.
Best wishes and every blessing.

Senior School
A number of students are running out of money or their credit cards have expired and not been topped up, which is causing some difficulties in purchasing food and beverages from the cafeteria. We kindly request parents to update their child's flexischools account to ensure that they have sufficient funds for their daily needs. Please note that there will be no more IOUs from the canteen, and students will be required to visit student services if they have no food or money.
We would also like to remind parents to check if their child's Smart Rider card is topped up, as this is required to purchase food and beverages from the canteen. We appreciate your cooperation and support in ensuring that your child has access to the necessary resources for a successful day at school.

Week 2 Enews
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you had a wonderful break over Easter with a chance to spend time with family and friends. The campus was again filled with excitement from our students as they connected with their peers and teachers again while sharing all their stories from the holidays.
Thank you
Over the holiday break, we marked up new traffic lines around the school to help with drive thru and pick up. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and guardians for the successful start in following the new markings. We appreciate your support and patience during these busy times to ensure the safety of our students.
Uniform
A reminder that students are to wear the formal winter uniform this term. You can access the uniform guidelines via the following link. On Fridays all K to 12 students are invited to wear their faction shirt with their sport uniform.
Kindy Timetable
To help create a settled and calm start to the day for our most little learners we are changing the morning routine in Kindy.
Starting in Week 2, the Kindy gates will open at 8.30am for parents to come through when they are ready into the Kindy area. The classroom doors will open around this time, and we welcome families to come in and complete a quiet-focused activity with their child to help settle them in and get ready for the day. We encourage families to drop off their eldest child first before heading into the Kindy area.
At 8.45am the classroom teacher will ring a bell to signal the start of the learning day. If your child is settled before the bell rings, you are welcome to leave and let the teacher know.
Please note that all playground areas are out of bounds before school as there is no duty teacher rostered on for supervision.
At the end of the day pleases wait for the teachers to open their doors at 2.45pm as this will signal that the day has concluded.
Junior Events
We also encourage you to download the new Corpus Christi app where you can subscribe to the relevant calendar events for your child’s year level. Information regarding the app is available here. You will also find on the College Calendar upcoming assemblies, prayer assemblies and Parish mass.

Corpus Christi College recently held an enriching and unforgettable tour of Sydney and Canberra from April 20-26, 2023. The tour included visits to popular sites such as the Australian War Memorial, Taronga Zoo, and the National Gallery of Australia. The group enjoyed comfortable accommodations, delicious meals, and learned about the history and culture of Australia. It was an incredible opportunity for students and staff to explore and create lasting memories. We look forward to sharing more updates and photos in the coming weeks on social media!
Amelia McIvor - Swimming
We are incredibly proud to announce the outstanding achievements of one of our very own students, Amelia, who recently competed in the Swimming WA junior state championships during the school holidays.
Over the course of four days, Amelia demonstrated incredible skill and dedication, earning an impressive 5 gold, 2 silver, and a bronze medal. Not only that, but she also swam 10 personal best times and was named one of the top female achievers of the entire meet!
At only 10 years old, Amelia's incredible performance is a true testament to her hard work and commitment to excellence. As a school, we are honored to have such a talented athlete among our students, and we can't wait to see where her future achievements will take her. Congratulations, Amelia, on becoming our state champion!
Gisella Colletti and Joshua Patel
We are thrilled to share the incredible achievements of two of our talented students, Gisella Colletti and Joshua Patel.
During the holidays, Gisella and Joshua won first place in Cockburn's Got Talent, showcasing their exceptional musical abilities and stage presence. Notably, Joshua demonstrated his incredible talent by learning to play a piece by memory, without the use of sheet music. Both Gisella and Joshua are music extension students, and their hard work and dedication to their craft is evident in their success.
In addition, Gisella also won first place in North Perth's Talent in the Park, earning 1st Place in Musical Theatre, 2nd Place in Vocal Contemporary, and the prestigious judges Rising Star award at Elite Eisteddfod.
As a school, we are incredibly proud of Gisella and Joshua, and we cannot wait to see what they will achieve in the future. Congratulations on these outstanding accomplishments!
Alex Hayes
We are thrilled to share the accomplishments of one of our talented students, Alex, who has made us proud with his exceptional skills and dedication to cricket.
Alex's team emerged victorious in the Grand Final at the WACA a few weeks back, after an undefeated season that saw them reach an impressive 1126 runs. This is a remarkable achievement that showcases the team's hard work and Alex's outstanding performance on the field. Moreover, Alex's dedication to cricket and advocacy for Autism in Cricket did not go unnoticed, as he was awarded the Junior Club Person of the Year. His efforts have inspired many young cricketers, particularly those with autism and other disabilities. Alex even had the opportunity to chat with Adam Vogues, the coach of the Scorchers and state team, to get some tips on his batting.
As a school, we are immensely proud of Alex's achievements and his efforts to make a difference in the lives of others. We congratulate him on his success and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this exceptional young cricketer.
Callan Emmerson
Congratulations to Year 7 student, Callan Emmerson, who performed as one of the leads in the musical "13". Callan, who is also a cast member in Corpus' production of Peter Pan, played the role of Eddie in "13". We are immensely proud of Callan's dedication and hard work in pursuing his passion for the performing arts. We are thrilled that he has been given this incredible opportunity to showcase his talents on stage.
Jade Barradeen, Emma Castro Hernandez, and Sophie Murray
Congratulations on the amazing achievement of the Puma girls who played in the Willetton Basketball Association under 12's Summer 2022/23 season. For the very first time, they made it to the finals and after a close and nail-biting semi-final, they secured their spot in the grand final, ultimately coming out champions!
The girls, Jade Barradeen, Emma Castro Hernandez, and Sophie Murray, worked tirelessly to achieve this success, and their hard work and dedication have certainly paid off. We commend their effort, teamwork, and commitment to the sport.
