E-News 15 November 2022
Welcome to Week 6
On Saturday over 700 people visited both our Primary and Secondary campuses for our College Open Day which was a wonderful celebration to showcase our school. I am very grateful to the staff, students and families who supported us on the day. There was a very positive atmosphere and our student leaders were outstanding and are to be commended on the way in which they conducted themselves when performing in the choir, public speaking and in leading the tours and the way in which they interacted with our prospective families.
Our students are encouraged to take full advantage of the multiple different learning opportunities afforded to them with a range of activities taking place across the campuses this past fortnight from the Education Support Centre’s Bushrangers Camp to Musical recital night, Primary Interschool Athletics Carnival, Year 8 STEM Week and more.
A great example of the richness of opportunities was last week’s NAIDOC celebrations across our K-12 campus. It was wonderful to see the series of events celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This year, the Year 10 Student Leadership Team were honoured to be able to coordinate activities to mark this occasion with the support of staff to provide the College with an exciting week of activities.
The theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week, ‘Get up! Stand up! Show up!’ was a call to be more than just a bystander, to be a force for change, and to participate in events that affect us. Postponed from the official week in July, the week celebrated our indigenous peoples, through learning, reflection and cultural activities for our students and staff. To read more about the week, visit our blog: www.corpus.wa.edu.au/news-blog
At Corpus Christi, we encourage students to step out and to be counter cultural in challenging the status quo when students know that it does not reflect the type of world Jesus envisaged.
We concluded the week on Friday with a minute of silence at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to mark Remembrance Day. I thank the students and staff from our Junior and Senior School who worked together to create a short service to view in-class to honour and remember the sacrifice from our servicemen and women, who were the epitome of being outstanding for others.
With just five weeks left of our school year, let us continue to look out for each other as we work through exams, assessments, final assemblies, farewells and more.
Best wishes and every blessing.

Middle School (Years 7-9)
Ethics Olympiad 2022
On Wednesday 9 November, five Year 7 Academic Excellence students competed in the Middle School Ethics Olympiad, a competition designed to promote respectful, creative and rigorous discussion of ethics based on real life issues. These included online bullying, paralympic pay parity, citizenship status at birth and the ethics surrounding nuclear and fossil fuel energy production.
The Olympiad is certainly for not for the faint-hearted and the competition was of a high calibre with 22 schools competing including a number of prestigious international schools from Hong Kong and India.
The Year 7 students who participated were:
Ethan Chin, Anastacia Kirby, Haydn Gibbens, Jeffrey Sackey and Annika Isabella Abecia.
While the Year 7 team did not finish on the podium, they did receive an honourable mention from the judges (only six other teams received this accolade) as a recognition of their potential. This is an outstanding achievement given that the Corpus team had never done the Olympiad before.
I am so proud of how well they rose to the occasion, and showed insight, perceptive critical thinking, empathy and cohesive teamwork. They are a credit both to themselves and the College.
I am looking forward to fielding more teams in 2023 and continuing Corpus’s successful involvement in the Ethics Olympiad as it is a wonderful opportunity to see the world from multiple perspectives.

Rising Scholar Program
Curtin University is again running the Innovative Schools Scholars Program and Corpus Christi has been invited to nominate high ability students to participate in Semester 1, 2023. (Please note that the program is being relaunched as the Rising Scholar Program (RSP) commencing in Semester 1, 2023.)
The program offers students the tertiary learning experience at Curtin University while still in high school, allowing them to earn University credit. Students will engage with staff and students through any of the available delivery modes of the University (on-campus, blended learning, or online). The program will consider outstanding Year 10, 11 or 12 students into one unit per semester and students may complete up to 4 units over the course of the program. Students will be granted a full fee sponsorship for the cost of the units (some unit resource costs may apply).
Students applying must have achieved grades of High B’s and A’s in their most recent report.
Successful completion of units through the program may be credited towards an undergraduate degree however students will need to seek eligibility regarding CRL. Students will receive a Curtin Certificate upon successful completion of an RSP unit.
Please see the information booklet via the button below and interested students/parents should contact Mr Scali at the College on 6332 2507.

Triathletes
Congratulations to our 85 aspiring Corpus triathletes who travelled to Champion Lakes Regatta Centre to compete in the School Sport WA Triathlon Championships on Thursday 3 November 2022 to represent the Secondary campus.
Competitors were able to compete in teams or as a solo entrant. With 23 teams and 16 individuals entered, Corpus Christi College was one of the largest teams present among approximately 30 other schools.
All our athletes are to be commended on their courage and support for one another during the day. The event was a tremendous display of Corpus camaraderie, and we enjoyed some wonderful results along with tremendous satisfaction of making it through a triathlon for many of our team who were new to the event.
For all results and some outstanding individual performances, please click here.
We also had two of our Primary students compete in the WA Primary Schools Triathlon event held at Champion Lakes on Friday 4 November 2022.
