Welcome to Week 7

Community Celebrations

We aim to promote a genuine sense of belonging and connection at Corpus Christi College, with a focus on quality relationships and an abundance of growth opportunities. In building a connected community, we regularly look for opportunities to gather together to celebrate our special K-12 College and to recognise the wonderful contribution of many in continuing to positively shape our excellent community.

Corpus Christi Day

We recently paused as a community to celebrate our significant Corpus Christi Day. Held on 18 August, the day was particularly special as it was the first time we celebrated this auspicious occasion as a whole K-12 College. The day allowed us to reflect on the importance of the Corpus Christi and how we are one school, one community one body in Christ.

In reflecting on The Feast of Corpus Christi, Pope Francis says that “it is a time to be filled with the joy and amazement of receiving loving nourishment from Jesus”.  At the same time, he says “the Eucharist must also move Christians to action”.

Pope Francis’ reflections remind us of a poem from Sr Teresa of Avila that also encourages us to act in service of others:

Christ has no body but yours,
no hands, no feet on earth but yours,
yours are the eyes with which He looks
compassion on this world,
yours are the feet with which He walks to do good,
yours are the hands, with which He blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are His body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
no hands, no feet on earth but yours,
yours are the eyes with which He looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

On this very special Corpus Christi Day we were thrilled to have Fr Phong celebrate our whole school Mass. He encouraged all of us to be Christ’s body on earth in reaching out and helping others. We also acknowledge our wonderful College choir, made up of primary and secondary students, for leading us in song during the Mass.

The remainder of the day was filled with a range of events and activities on each of the campuses to celebrate the many different parts of our College community, with money raised donated to our Catholic ministries.

We thank all of our staff, students and parents for their support of this very special day in the life of the school.

Book Week

Staff and students celebrated Book Week across the College last week to encourage positivity around reading.  Reading of course promotes imagination and curiosity whilst supporting literacy and language skill development. It supports overall wellness and stress reduction, builds knowledge and can be a great source of entertainment. Reading also promotes conversation, builds important social and communication skills and develops critical thinking and creativity. Reading is therefore a very important part of all of our lives and hence our interest in celebrating book week recently.

Wednesday’s Primary Book Parade was a highlight of the week with staff and students dressing up as their favourite book character. Another highlight was on the Friday where it was the secondary students’ turn to dress up in character. The week was a very joyful one and we acknowledge the terrific support from parents and caregivers for assisting in their child’s preparation.

Upcoming Events

In keeping with the theme of celebrating as a community, we are looking forward to a series of key events where we will gather as a connected College:

  • Fathers’ Day Breakfast

  • Year 9 Personal Project Exhibition

  • Arts Week Events

Ticketing details for these events can be found in the events section further down in the E-News.

We encourage families to keep abreast of all happenings at the College via our events page which is located at www.corpus.wa.edu.au/events.

We look forward to connecting with you at upcoming events as we celebrate the many special parts that make up the one body that is our Corpus Christi College.

Best wishes and every blessing.

Year 10 Pastoral Focus Session

On Tuesday 23 August, the Year 10 students were fortunate to have Ysafe engage them for a presentation in the areas of Cyber Safety and Digital Reputation. The Ysafe team were engaging, interesting, and refreshing. YSafe’s session addressed social media and cyber safety with a tech-positive approach, with an obvious focus on the social and behavioural experiences of the students. A perfectly pitched cyber safety talk exploring the laws around 'sexting' and non-consensual sharing of nudes. A broader discussion was held on the social and emotional impacts of distribution, and the provision of strategies to manage inappropriate requests and peer pressure.

Ysafe also discussed the concept of online reputations and personal branding, challenging students to think about perception, exploring the impact on university and job prospects, and providing strategies for harnessing a positive online image. The team from Ysafe used up-to-date case studies that outlined impact well. The knowledge base that has created such specialisation in cyber safety comes from a team well equipped since inception in 2013, with child psychologists, teachers and police officers who all are at the forefront of a changing technological world and the impact this is having on young people today.
