E-News 22 April 2022

Welcome to Term 2

A very warm welcome back to the start of a new term. I hope that you had a Happy and Holy Easter and enjoyed the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends over the break.

I would like to reiterate my thanks to our community for their excellent support over a very dynamic Term 1. We look forward to again working closely with you this term to provide clear communication as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve.

Please rest assured that we will continue to promote a safe environment, upholding required safety protocols, whilst also aiming to ensure that we provide a multitude of learning pathways for students.

COVID Update:

The Premier announced on 13 April 2022 that the Western Australian close contact definition will now align with the National Cabinet’s definition.

This means that a close contact is now defined as:

  • a family or household member of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period;

  • someone who has had close interaction with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period, where they spent more than 4 hours with them in a single day, in a residential setting, including a boarding facility, where masks have not been worn; or

  • someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.

Schools are no longer considered close contact venues. A child who attends class with a peer who later tests positive to COVID-19 will no longer be identified as a close contact.

Any child who becomes symptomatic should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. Please continue to refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definitions, testing and isolation requirements.

Any positive COVID-19 result should be reported on the school’s COVID-19 Self-Reporting Portal link here and positive COVID-19 RAT results must also be reported on the WA Health RAT Register, as is required by the WA Government.

The easing of restrictions has meant some additional school activities can resume this term. We will provide more information on the requirements and additional COVID-19 considerations for each activity as they arise on the school calendar.

In preparation for the commencement of the term, I would like to provide you with some additional updated College operating guidelines:

Parents and caregivers

  • We welcome parents and caregivers back onto the campus to attend year level assemblies and as spectators to school sports

  • Outdoor drop off/pick up will continue as per Term 1

  • At this point in time, there will still be no access to classrooms

  • We remind parents and caregivers that they need to maintain required health and hygiene conditions and follow the mask wearing requirements when attending the campus

Uniform requirements

  • The College shifts to the full winter school uniform for the commencement of the term

  • We would encourage families to make uniform purchases online www.corpus.wa.edu.au/uniform-shop. Fitting appointments can be made at the College via the Uniform Shop if required.

  • Given the challenges of our current environment, we are allowing a transition phase to the winter uniform which concludes on 9 May 2022.

  • At this stage given the current COVID protocols, the College will continue to allow students to wear their sports uniform with tracksuit to school on days when they have a sporting or practical class timetabled. This interim strategy is subject to change with future adjusted COVID protocols.

Traffic Management

Primary Campus - Adjustment

We are pleased to inform our community of an adjusted student pick up/drop off strategy for the Primary school campus. This change has been made in the interests of the safety of members of the school community and to provide more convenience to parents and caregivers and students.

We have partnered with the City of Melville to address concerns around traffic congestion and have arrived at a solution which will hopefully allow for a more efficient process. We will trial the process for a period of time and then seek feedback from our community.

We are grateful to the St Thomas More Parish community for their excellent support in planning the new strategy. We are thankful to our parents and caregivers for their input over time.

Further details of the new pick up/drop off strategy are included in this edition of eNews. Head of Primary Mrs Rosemary Paparella will also provide additional information directly to Primary school families.

Secondary Campus - Reminder

The welfare of students is our number one priority at Corpus Christi College.

Families are encouraged to use the marked pick up/drop off bays and not stop near the entrance to the lower staff car park by the oval – this is to ensure a safe and continuous flow of traffic.

We would also like to remind families that the Dean Road entry to the College is not to be used as a drop off or pick up point for students and ask that you pay close attention to the existing signage and road rules.

We thank everyone for their co-operation in ensuring the safety of our students.

Parent Engagement Opportunities

I would like to acknowledge the input from parents and guardians who participated in our Vision, Mission, Values Online Parent Forum late last term. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to co-create these strategic philosophies with our families and look forward to bringing them to life through genuine action with our future planning.

We look forward to several upcoming parent engagement opportunities at the College:

  • Parent-Student-Teacher Online Interviews

o   Scheduled for Wednesday 27 April, we strongly encourage all parents to connect with teachers

  • Climate Survey

o   As previously mentioned, we are looking forward to you input into developing a snapshot of the culture in our community to support the ongoing growth and development of our community

o   Further details are available in this edition of eNews

  • Friends of Corpus

o   We look forward to inviting parents and caregivers onto the campus in the next few weeks to help design this strategy

Staffing Update

We warmly welcome a number of new staff to our College community to fill a range of ongoing and fixed term positions:

  • Abigail Breust: Education Assistant (Primary)

  • Leila Chandler: English

  • Asher Fryer: Humanities

  • Amenah Jaleel: Cafeteria Assistant

  • Linda Kennedy: Cafeteria Assistant

  • Gerard Schirinzi: Design and Technology

We welcome back Tamar Caro while we await Leila Chandler's commencement. We also welcome Donna Chong back to the community after her time away on leave. We wish Sophie Luck all of the very best in her Acting Head of Technology and Enterprise role this term whilst Chris Brehaut is away on leave.

I hope that you enjoy the reminder of the holiday break. We look forward to students returning to the College on Thursday 28 April.

Best wishes and every blessing

Jeff Allen

Principal

NSI Survey notice to Parents April 2022

Dear Parents

I have previously provided information (March College eNews) of the National School Improvement (NSI) surveys to be used in all Catholic schools. You are invited to participate in a survey about Corpus Christi College’s organisational climate and how it can be improved. This survey is an opportunity for parents to tell the College how things are going for you and your children. The College values your feedback and will try and respond to the information you provide.

Similar surveys will be administered to staff and students to enable us to capture a community snapshot.

Completion of the survey is on a voluntary basis.

Your confidentiality

To protect your confidentiality all surveys are anonymous. All answers go directly to the National School Improvement Partnerships, where the results are analysed for the College. Answers from individual surveys will NOT be reported back to the College. Staff of the National School Improvement Partnerships are bound by a Code of Ethics and follow strict professional conduct.

Use of the data

National School Improvement Partnerships will report the results to the College in an aggregated format so that individuals cannot be identified. To enable drill-down reporting, the information provided to the College will contain data based on background information.

How to complete the survey

You will be asked whether you are completing the survey for an individual child or as a family. If your children’s experiences are similar, then responding once will suffice. However, if your children are experiencing very different learning environments, you might want to answer separately for each child. The survey contains statements about practices which could take place within the College. For each statement, you will be asked to indicate how often the statement takes place. There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. Your opinion is what is wanted.

Please be sure to answer all questions. Some statements may be fairly similar to other statements. Don't worry about this. Simply give your opinion about all statements.

To complete the survey in 2022, parents please go to www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the access code CCPACS in the Start Questionnaire field.

If you require more information or have any questions, please contact the NSI Team.

Email: NSITeam@NSIpartnerships.com.au

Your time and consideration are much appreciated.

Frank Italiano
Vice Principal

Update to Drop Off/Pick Up Area

Please note there is a change to the entry point for the Primary drop off and pick up area effective from the morning of Thursday 28 April 2022 (first day back at school).

This change has been made in the interests of the safety of members of the school community. We have partnered with the City of Melville to address concerns around traffic congestion.

Entry/Exit

Vehicles must enter via the Dean Road entrance and drive through towards the Primary school, following the new directional arrows, and exit through the usual exit point at Marsengo Drive.

Vehicles are not permitted to enter through the Marsengo Drive entrance previously used. This will be blocked off during the hours of 7.00am – 9.00am and 2.00pm – 4.00pm.

Access to the Kindergarten Carpark must be made through entering on Dean Road and following the directional arrows, through to the Kindergarten Carpark.

Drop Off/Pick Up Zones

There are additional drop off and pick up zones which have been added, as indicated on the map and will be identifiable by yellow painted zones.

To ensure the flow of traffic moves most efficiently, keep moving forward to any available bays.

We ask parents and caregivers to follow the directions of the signage and the staff on duty.

Learn to Swim

The Learn to Swim program has a range of options for all swimming abilities, with bookings now open for Term 2!

Available to Corpus Christi College Pre-Primary to Year 6 students, the program will be run on Mondays in Term 2 for an 8-week program.

The timetable found via www.corpus.wa.edu.au/extra-curricular is an insight into the offerings that may be available during Term 2.

This is strictly for ‘Expressions of Interest’ only and is not guaranteed to go ahead - this will be dependant on Covid-19 restrictions put in place by Catholic Education WA.

Easter Liturgy

In the last week of term our K-12 College celebrated our Easter liturgy called 'On Oceans Deep Our Faith Will Stand' which commemorated Holy Week and the coming of Easter. Many of our students across the College used their gifts and talents to bring the liturgy to life.

We thank all of our students for their efforts, including our Year 5 students who created the Stations of the Cross, our Year 7s who retold the story of Christ's Passion from different viewpoints via a contemporary drama piece. Year 12 Siarne Scarfo sang Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone in an effort to bring us closer to Easter and the resurrection and all students for participating in the reflective prayers.

Our Senior School students (Years 10-12) performed a dance to the song Oceans, with the Year 12 dance being choreographed by our Dance Captain Erin. To watch the dance performance please click here.
