Work Placement Update
In Week 2 of this term, a number of Year 11 and 12 students commenced work placement. The students go out one day a week to their placement and usually complete 55 or 110 hours over the Semester. Each 55 hours completed is equivalent to a grade C in one unit for WACE.
The placements include a variety of industries such as Aviation, Childcare, Electricians, Nursing and Aged Care, Information Technology, Automotive, Carpentry, Retail, and Hairdressing. The Authority Developed Workplace Learning (ADWPL) program provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate, and develop increasing competence in, the core skills for work.
Work placement is a wonderful experience; it helps students to develop their confidence and employability skills. It can assist with applying for TAFE courses, getting part time work and, in some industries, securing apprenticeships.
Currently we are taking applications from Year 10 students who are on a General Pathway who would like to participate in this program. These students will go out one day a week from Week 2, Term 2. We are also taking applications for students who are interested in going on placement in the school holidays – this gives the students on an ATAR Pathway the opportunity to get industry experience. Finally, we are encouraging all Year 11 students on a General Pathway to use the exam break in Term 2 (Weeks 7 and 8) to go out on work placement for a least one of these weeks.
Any interested students should come to the Careers office and get an application form from Mrs Martin, the Workplace Learning Coordinator, or send her an email on leana.martin@cewa.edu.au
