Hello, We’re Leah and Sanjeev, your Head Girl and Head Boy for 2021.

It’s wonderful to have you all back at the College today, well rested and ready for the new year. We’re very excited to work with you and hope to make this a memorable year for you all.

We have many aspirations for this year, such as building the student voice and inter-year connection that we outlined at the end of last year.

To start this address, we would like to welcome our new Year 7 students! We’re very excited to meet you and have you join our Corpus community. I’m sure that many remember what it was like; feeling nervous, not knowing where each building was and more! We implore all students to be good role models for the new students and assist them in whatever they might need. We want you to treat them with kindness, care and respect.

As for our current Year 12s, this year is the final stretch of our high school journey. There will be challenges and a lot of work, but it’s so important to maintain a balance between your studies and your interests. To reach any goals you may have set for yourself this year, it’s also important to develop good study habits – minimising distractions and taking breaks when needed; a good night’s sleep also goes a long way. You are both your own boss and employee, so try to find the right balance between work and leisure to keep yourself happy and healthy.

We would also like to acknowledge the Year 12s from the 2020 cohort. These students are to be commended for their academic excellence in a difficult year and we congratulate them on their amazing achievements.

For our current Year 11s, this year will be quite the jump from Year 10. Undoubtedly there will be times where you may feel challenged or behind on the workload, however there is a lot of support available to you, in the form of your teachers, peers and Year 12 students. We are more than happy to help, so feel free to talk to us. Amidst your academic endeavours, we also encourage you to find time to reflect on yourselves and your own unique journeys.

A new year marks a fresh start for all of us. Your academic performance from last year doesn’t affect what you choose to do this year; however it might encourage you to change how you study and spend your time. It’s important to develop good study habits for future years. From our experience, if you minimise distractions and take breaks when needed, you’ll be on the right track to achieving your goals. A good night’s sleep also goes a long way. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask your older students or teachers.

At the end of last year, we briefly discussed our aspiration for greater inter-year connection, which of course is linked to College involvement. Coming out of most of the restrictions we had in 2020, there’s a lot going on around the College this year in terms of sports, arts, ministry and academic areas, so we strongly encourage you to get involved. It’s a great way to meet new people, develop your talents and skills, and find enjoyable hobbies or hidden talents to carry into senior school and beyond. For those of  you who are already involved, try new and different activities. If you do music, try a sport or chess club – you get the idea.

Finally, we would like to stress the importance of being kind and considerate to others. Things can get tough for all of us and you never know what someone is going through, so try your best to be kind to all you encounter. Whether it’s smiling or greeting someone when you pass by them or offering a helping hand, it’s the small things that make a person’s day.

We look forward to working with you all this year and we hope to make our school the best it can be for us all.

Thank you for your time and we wish you the best in all you do!

Leah and Sanjeev
