Term 3 Pastoral Care Program

Guided by Catholic principles, the College has a proven pastoral care program that is focused on the well-being of all students from Years 7 through to 12. Adolescence is a time of growth, challenge and transition – the right support helps ensure students stay on track to meet their educational, spiritual and personal goals. By focusing on the growth of the whole person – as opposed to focusing just on academics – the College aims to help students develop key life skills for coping with challenges at school and beyond.

Throughout the term, the WOW (Wellbeing on Wednesday’s) will occur during Extended Homeroom, where students will have an opportunity to learn about and develop their relationship and inter-personal skills. During the Pastoral Focus periods on 17 September the students will participate in the following activities:

Year 7:

Paul Litherland: ‘Surf Online Safe’ presentation.

Team Building: Students will participate in wellbeing/team building activities drawing on their knowledge and skills to create respectful team relationships and environments. 

Year 8:

Jordan Foster: Clinical Psychologist presenting on Cyber Safety, in particular making smart choices and thriving in the digital world. Covers topics including: Cyber Bullying, Nudes and the Law; Online Wellbeing and Screen Time; and Digital Footprint and Online Reputation. 

Team Building: Writing pledges/Code of Conduct for ICT use; creating visual resources for Corpus Community. 

Year 9:

Paul Litherland: Developing an understanding of the responsibility involved when owning and managing social media accounts, with a focus on online behaviours. 

Team Building:  Developing a sense of trust by taking part in activities where students understand what it feels like to be trusted and to trust unconditionally. 

Year 10: 

Jordan Foster: Giving students an affirmative and psychological spin on cyber safety. Our goal is to empower young people to make smart choices online, and to thrive in the digital world, not just survive. 

Chandler Comerford: You are capable of more than you think – during this talk Chandler will relay three tools (Perspective, Fellowship and Commitment) which can assist the students with managing change as they transition from one phase of their life to the next. 

Paul Dillon: Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA) aims to provide education and training expertise as well as high quality research assistance on a wide range of alcohol and other drug issues. DARTA is committed to best practice drug education and all workshops are aligned with the new Australian Health and Physical Education Curriculum. 

Year 11: 

Paul Litherland: A ‘Surf Online Safe’ presentation provides up to date technologically-relevant knowledge and valuable learning tools to better equip the whole school community for interacting online. 

Chandler Comerford: Guidance on how to identify the positives and negatives of risk taking

Paul Dillon: Awareness of drug and alcohol usage that can have an impact on young people’s lives. 

Year 12: 

Red Frogs: LEAVERS WORKSHOP 
Drawing upon their personal experiences from WA Leavers hotspots Dunsborough and Bali, our presenters will address common problems that arise during Leavers Week, some of which can have life-long consequences. Students are given tips for how to plan a safe Leavers Week, including:

  • How to access official Leavers WA events

  • Accommodation matters: How to keep your bond and not get evicted 

  • Impacts of alcohol and drugs at Leavers

  • Avoiding violence

  • Easy ways to obtain criminal convictions at Leavers Week

  • Handling depression, anxiety & suicide ideation

  • Transport, road safety and overseas travel risks

  • Social media
