Touch Carnival
On Thursday 8 June, two Middle School Touch teams represented the College in a Champion Schools Touch Carnival at George Manning Reserve. In what was perfect weather, both teams performed admirably against tough competition. A handful of the opposition were Specialist Touch Schools so we knew the day would prove to be a real challenge.
The boys were in a tough pool which included Lakelands A, Thornlie A, Willetton A, Atwell C, Mandurah and All Saints.
We won 3 and lost 3 with the following results:
WON 3-0 v Atwell C
LOST 8-0 v Thornleigh A
LOST 4-1 v Lakelands A
WON 3-2 v Willeton A
LOST 2-1 v Mandurah
WON 4-2 v All Saints
The boys played well all day and while the scores were pretty indicative of the games, the Mandurah game could easily have gone our way and we were very competitive against Lakelands. Thornlie looked to be a class above and the talk leading in was that they would probably play Aranmore A in the final.
Liam guided the team as coach and Byrone Devene was nominated as Captain for the day and served as our most consistent player. He was well-supported by Cullen Devene, Chase Bourne, Nayan Brown and Jack Clutterbuck who all played a good brand of Touch. The entire squad improved as the Carnival progressed and players started to work well as a team. The bonus was that no players suffered any injuries.
The girls team also drew a tough pool playing 7 games in total, winning 2 games, losing 4 (narrowly losing 2) and drew 1 (on the siren).
All players contributed well and set up some good plays to score. They need to be commended on their sportsmanship and support for each other throughout the day. We had one injury with Bianca Liedtke badly rolling an ankle in the last game to All Saints'. It was an enjoyable but very tiring day for all the players.
