Corpus Cross Country - Committed Connected and Courageous!

Thursday 1 June 2017 felt more like late Spring than the first day of winter. Conditions were ideal early but soon became unseasonably warm and challenging for the eighty-five-strong team of committed Corpus athletes who competed in the ACC Cross Country Carnival at Perry Lakes Reserve. The event brought together 67 ACC member schools to compete in the biggest event of its type in Western Australia.

After a slow start in the U13 events, Corpus stamped her authority in the remaining races and the class and courage of our well-prepared team became obvious to all that were fortunate enough to witness the magnificent celebration of young sporting talent.

Corpus won the U14 Girls Division, Open Girls Division and The Overall Girls Division.

In the Overall Combined Division Corpus finished the day 3rd.

Of the 67 schools competing, Corpus ranked Top 5 in 7 Categories.

Category   Ranking

U14 Girls    1
U14 Boys   3
U15 Girls    2
U16 Girls    5
U19 Girls    1
Overall Girls    1
Overall Combined    3

It was another stunning performance from Kayla Van der Linden of Year 8 who won the U14 Girls Division and was not only the fastest female overall from over 1800 girls, but also the third fastest athlete overall on pace at 3:11 min/km from over 3,300 boys and girls.

Taylor Kroyer won the U15 Girls Division and was the 6th fastest female overall.

Despite being unwell during the week prior, our female Captain Brooke McCoy demonstrated wonderful courage after collapsing from exhaustion just metres before the finishing line and picking herself up to finish 6th in the U19 Girls race. Combining with fearless team mates Kayla Weekes and Claire James who both finished top 15, our U19 Girls sealed their age group and the Overall Girls Trophy.

Other outstanding individual performances came from Isabella Cross Year 7, Sienna Andritsos, Carly Pizzuto, Cade Ravlich, Jaren Carr Year 8, Holly Van der Linden Year 10 and Liam Hislop of Year 12 who all placed top 15 in their age group category.

With around 300 competitors in each race, finishing in the first 50 was a marvellous achievement and so we have listed those in the ‘Corpus Top 50 Club 2017’ below.

Massive thanks to our dedicated coaching team headed by Mr Reno Sinagra and supported by Mr Mark Green, Ms Tessa Johnson and Ms Cara Wright. The commitment of these staff to the running program has enabled many team members to achieve their goals and all have been key players in the success of our 2017 campaign.

We encourage keen runners to continue attending running club and to maintain their fitness for the impending Athletics season.

The team results and raw individual results from the Cross Country are available on the ACC website as an Excel file. Click this link to download the XC Team Results2017v1 file.
